Triumphs & Tribulations

By The Fifty Fund (Produced Exclusively for The Fifty Fund by Locomaster Profiles)

This DVD charts the ‘highs and lows’ of the Class 50 Alliance’s three locomotives - 50035 Ark Royal, 50044 Exeter and 50049 Defiance - from 2006 to 2012.

Most of their workings have been on the main line but, as anyone familiar with the Class will know, their main line work has not been without incident.

All is revealed in this fascinating programme, which also features 50031 Hood.

SCENES AND WORKINGS INCLUDE...

50031 + 50049 on hire to Arriva Trains Wales working Cardiff-Fishguard Harbour and Cardiff-Crewe service trains; new-look 50012 Benbow + 50028 Tiger on the ‘Orcadian’ charter to Kyle of Lochalsh, Wick and Thurso; 50049 hauling a ‘bubble car’ DMU from Crewe to Cardiff; 50031 hauling 37411 from Old Oak Common to Cardiff; 50049 working the ‘Bristol Coal Stone Haul’ charity charter train to Avonmouth and Westerleigh...and then breaking new ‘50’ ground at Whitby; the power unit lift on 50035 inside Old Oak Common’s ‘Factory’; 50049 venturing along the Brighton Main Line to Eastbourne and on the Watford DC Lines from Euston to Watford and Bletchley...plus a rare ‘Vac’ visit to London Marylebone; D444 at the 2008 Swanage diesel gala; 50135 re-painted into Loadhaul livery at Old Oak Common which then becomes the last loco to leave the ‘Factory’ before closure of the depot; the re-dedication of Ark Royal at Eastleigh Works before the loco heads to Swanage; D444 working the ‘Cambrian Mountaineer’ charter to Aberystwyth; the return of 50044 Exeter in BR blue; 50015 + 50135 + 50044 triple-heading on the East Lancs Railway; 50044 + 50049 storming along the East Coast Main Line en route to Edinburgh; 50044 with the Virgin Mark 3 ‘Pretendolino’ set working from Euston to Holyhead; 50135 being moved to Cardiff Canton for wheelset repairs; 50031 Hood + 50026 Indomitable provide a Large Logo double-header on the Severn Valley...and 50044 pounding the south Devon banks on a GB Railfreight charity special to Paignton and Plymouth.
